Welcome to course MPTUO1a – Introduction to Psychology. This course is derived from the American Psychological Association’s Teachers of Psychology in Secondary Schools (APA TOPSS) course template for high school psychology.
The template was developed at the APA Summit on High School Psychology Education at Weber State University in July of 2017. It was designed by teachers and professors, for use by high school psychology teachers. The template aligns with APA’s National Standards for High School Psychology Curricula based on the original domains and standards areas included in the Units of Study listed on this page.
The free MPTUO1a My Psych Teacher University course is an adaptation of the original APA TOPSS course template. Modifications were made by Shenica Graham in order to create the college level introductory course that you encounter here.
In this 8-week online course, students will discover prevailing research and information in the field of psychology. The curriculum helps students effectively identify key persons in the history of psychological study. After completing this course, students will be able to choose a path to further education in the field of psychology. Students will interact effectively with their peers in the online community.
“Hi” From The Instructor, Shenica R. Graham
Greetings! My name is Shenica Graham, and I will be your instructor.
I have a passion for education and teaching is my first academic love. I hold a BA in Psychology and BA in General Studies, both from Wichita State University. I am currently a Full Stack Web Design student. I teach biblical and psychology courses, specializing in spiritual development and mental health disorders, especially schizoaffective bipolar disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, and major depression – all of which I battle daily. Teaching online has provided me the opportunity to give back to my community in a tangible way.
I have over 20 years of experience in online writing. I post a daily devotional and have a women’s ministry blog. I have authored thousands of pages over the last two decades as a freelance writer.
I began having symptoms of mental illness as a teenager and so I understand many of the issues that complicate challenges facing youth and adults including suicidal ideology. This is why I have a deep desire to serve the mental health community, offering courses that help students develop practical coping skills to rise from their battles with mental illness. Now in my early forties, I live mental health from both perspectives of patient and life coach. My goal is to empower those living with mental illness and to educate those working with us.
My courses teach practical life skills that can modify behavior and help avoid debilitating symptoms of mental illness. If mental health sparks your interest, I look forward to welcoming you to classes that will make the mind work for you.
